Set up a custom sharing domain & CNAME in dadan

Dadan allows you to replace the default dadan sharing link with your own branded domain. This gives your viewers a consistent and trusted experience under your company’s name. SSL is included at no extra cost, and you’ll manage the DNS through your provider.

• Note: This document is intended for your company’s domain administrator, who is familiar with managing DNS records and SSL certificates. If you don’t have direct access to your domain settings, please share this guide with your IT administrator or domain management team.

Before you begin #

To start, do this before:

• Ensure you have access to your DNS provider (e.g., Cloudflare, GoDaddy, or Google Domains).
• Decide which subdomain you want to use for dadan, such as dadan.yourdomain.com or videos.yourdomain.com.
• Please note that DNS changes may take several minutes to hours to take effect.

Accessing your dadan account profile #

To access your dadan account profile, follow these steps:

1. Open the dadan web app.
2. Click on your Profile icon in the top-right corner.
3. Select Account & preferences from the dropdown menu.

4. Navigate to the My Account page. It includes several sections.
5. Click the Sharing & Branding section.

6. The Sharing & Branding page will open.
   • Select the Custom Domain tab.

Adding a custom sharing domain #

To connect your custom domain:

1. Add this DNS record in your DNS domain provider’s settings:
   • Type: CNAME
   • Name: yourchosenname.yourdomain.com (replace yourchosenname with a subdomain you decide, such as video, cdn, or media)
   • Target: d1xd0x7pfalrvt.cloudfront.net
   • TTL: Default (for example, 300 seconds)

Note: Refer to your domain provider’s support or documentation for assistance.

2. Choose the SSL option:
   • Dadan automatically provides secure connections for your viewers. You can choose between:

• Use Managed Free SSL (recommended): Dadan will generate and manage your SSL certificate automatically.
• Upload Custom SSL Certificate (coming soon): If you prefer to use your own SSL, you’ll be able to upload it here.

3. Enter your custom domain:
   • In the Custom Domain field, type your chosen domain (without http:// or https://).
     • Example: dadan.yourdomain.com.
   • Click Add Domain to save your changes.

• Important: The word “dadan” shown in the example is only a placeholder. Replace it with your own subdomain name, such as video.yourdomain.com or cdn.yourdomain.com. Do not use “dadan” unless you specifically want that as your subdomain.

4. Once your DNS settings are published, your new branded link will replace the default dadan link in your share page.

For Hostinger users #

If your domain is managed through Hostinger, you may need to add additional CAA records before your custom domain works correctly with SSL.

1. In your Hostinger DNS settings, add 4 CAA records, name: @ with the following CA domain names:
   • amazon.com
   • amazontrust.com
   • awstrust.com
   • amazonaws.com
   • Type: CAA
   • Flags: 0
   • Tag: ISSUE
   • TTL: 14400 (or Auto if preferred)

2. After adding these records, remove the connected CNAME from dadan and add it again.

This ensures that SSL certificates can be properly issued and your custom domain functions without errors.

Troubleshooting #

• If your custom domain isn’t working, check that the CNAME record is correctly entered and points to d1xd0x7pfalrvt.cloudfront.net.
• DNS changes may take up to 24 hours to fully propagate, depending on your provider.
• If SSL errors appear, ensure you’ve selected Managed Free SSL or wait for the SSL certificate to finish provisioning (this may take a few minutes after DNS resolves).

Example use cases #

• Share branded video links with clients, such as videos.company.com.
• Use a consistent company subdomain for training, onboarding, or marketing videos.
• Enhance trust and professionalism when sharing dadan recordings externally.

Notes:

• Only available to tier 3 users.
• Only the account owner can configure it.
• Only one CNAME per account.
• You can remove and add a different CNAME.
